Bay Window Shutters
What are they? : Custom made shutters to fit your bay window.
Pros : Stylish, all angles, styles and configurations possible.
Cons : There aren’t any!
Best for : All types of bays – box bay, standard angled bay, multi angled bay.
Whether you have a square bay or an angled bay, we can design and install any of our range of shutters to suit your window. Many companies will use individual framed units which are then butted together to dress the window. We may use this mounting style in a Victorian bay, for example, where there are large mullions between the window frames. In more modern windows, where we can, we will use a different method and create a complete frame using a ‘Bay’ or ‘Corner’ post.
Bay posts are standard 135 degrees but can be customised to any angle and are a solid vertical internal frame post that follow the angle of your bay window. Corner posts are used for ‘box’ or square bay windows and turn 90 degrees. The idea of the post is to give us a mounting for the panels and be able to build a complete framed unit to match your window in which we can hang these panels. We would note here that unlike curtains on a curved rail, our shutters cannot be completely withdrawn from the window. All panels will open for access to the window but the centre sections will fold over the side when opened.
We provide and design countless bay window shutters as the effect that can be created is visually stunning and the usability of shutters is renowned. We have seen the trend increase as people replace their curtains and nets with shutters which will act both as a light filter and a way of creating privacy in your window. By angling the louvers you can allow plenty of light into the room without the outside world being able to see in.
Many street facing homes have added shutters either café style or full height exactly for these reasons. The advantage of full height shutters is that you do not need any other window dressing at all to control the light. Café shutters have extensively been used to add privacy as an alternative to nets and in some cases our clients use them with blinds or curtains and in other situations just accept that they will never completely darken their room.
A major benefit of window shutters is the feeling of space that can be achieved as there is nothing hanging down to the floor and the shutters are fitted as tight to the window as possible. The depth of the reveal or bay can feel much greater and lighter with the addition of shutters and the overall result can make the room feel much lighter and bigger.
We have many images and can show examples of how we expect your window to look at our design visit. We also carry the frame samples so we can explain exactly how your bay window would work and open.
