Project Details

One of the most satisfying things in our business is returning to do more work for an existing client. Repeat custom indicates we have done our job well previously and that the client has converted to the benefits of shutters over other window dressing solutions.

One such client in Crawley contacted us to look at their bedroom window in their new build development. We’d previously carried out work in the living room on an interesting floor-to-ceiling balcony window & door, as below.

The second phase was slightly complicated due to a protective shield installed on the window sill to prevent anyone falling through the opened window.

We advised that the best course of action was to utilise a Tier on Tier design, where the lower section of panels remained shut, with the louvres operating as normal behind the shield. The upper section could then be opened to operate the window as required.

We decided on MDF shutters (our Seattle range) in a pure white colour with matching hinges and a 63mm louvre. As MDF shutters are heavier than hardwood, we advised that a horizontal T post between the two tiers would reduce the possibility of the top shutters drooping. This would also ensure the whole unit was more stable and meant the panels would not move in a breeze, should the window be open fully behind them.

Using the hidden tilt control mechanism continued the modern sleek look and the installation was completed without a hitch. To create near blackout for our shift working client, a roller blind was installed above the window in a subtle grey colour to compliment the décor.

The overall effect is attractive and modern, completing a stylish contemporary feel to the flat.
