In Europe the external shutter market is thriving, in the UK though it never managed to get off the ground.
The main reason for this is that in the UK our windows open outwards and therefore the internal plantation shutters market is the main choice of those looking for a flexible and stylish window dressing.
Apart from looking brilliant, shutters offer tremendous insulation to your windows helping to reduce heat loss in the winter and keeping your home cool in the summer heat. Right now, this is a huge consideration, keeping your home cool in the extreme summer temperatures.
So, the internal vs external debate in the UK refers to the decisions you have to make when choosing your shutters. The main aim is for the shutters to look good both inside and outside your home! Obviously, this does affect the design of the shutters because sometimes one has to consider how the shutters line up with the windows themselves. If this isn’t considered it is very easy to make the shutters look awful from the outside and clash with existing lines.
