About The Window Shutter Company

We cover West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey and parts of Kent and London. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether we can cover your area so that we can advise further.

Yes, we are established members of the British Blind & Shutter Association. The BBSA is the only national trade association for the shutter industry and takes a leading role to ensure high standards of product, service, and fair trading throughout the trade. As a member, we must adhere to a Code of Practice and we are kept updated with changes to standards, requirements and best practice via regular communications. Always use a BBSA member!

We have been trading since 2012 but prior to this, Tim worked for one of the main shutter suppliers in the UK so we have a vast amount of experience in shutters. We are members of the BBSA (British Blind & Shutter Association), The Guild of Mastercraftsmen and Checkatrade to offer you complete piece of mind. We also have hundreds of 5* reviews from our very happy customers to also reassure you.

No, we only request the balance payment once your shutters have been installed and we will supply you with an invoice on the day.

We offer a 5 year manufacturer backed guarantee on all of our shutters.

We do not currently have a showroom. However, we always bring sample shutter panels and a vast collection of images on the iPad of our previous installations to the home design visit, so that you can make an informed decision in the comfort of your own home.

This will depend on several factors - for example, how many windows you are looking to dress with shutters, how much you know about shutters, the product/design you are looking for, and the number of questions you may have. Initially, we will ask you what you are looking to achieve from the shutters eg. privacy, light closure, maintaining a view. We will show you product samples and images at the visit and discuss with you the design and configurations that are possible. We will then measure the windows and work out a quote which we will leave with you. We generally allow up to 1.5 hours for an appointment, but it can easily be much quicker than this. Rest assured; we won't outstay our welcome!

We have extensive experience and have been trading since 2012. Prior to that, Tim worked for the largest shutter supplier in Europe, training trade partners on how to sell and install shutters.

We only provide a full design, supply and installation service and do not offer a self-fit option.

No, we only supply internal plantation shutters.

No, we specialise in the design, supply and installation of interior shutter blinds only.

Information About Our Shutters

Our shutters are manufactured in China. The factory that we use has been supplying shutters in the UK for over 20 years and the product is the most tried and tested on the market.

Yes, our shutters are custom made to your exact requirements and we take full responsibility for the measuring which is to the exact millimetre. If you would like an initial idea of costs, please send us some rough window dimensions and we can send you a price estimate. We will discuss design/configuration and take "formal" measurements at the home design visit.

Yes, we offer a waterproof shutter range. Our Hollywood shutters are made from ABS plastic and have a finish that is hard to tell from our premium hardwood offerings. Using marine grade Stainless Steel hardware there is no issue with these shutters in the harshest of environments. Available in standard colour options this range can also be custom coloured to suit any décor.

Our current lead time is approximately 10-12 weeks from order but this can vary dependent on shipping times at the point of order. We always stay in touch with our clients once an order has been placed to communicate updates on their order and we will install your shutters at the very earliest opportunity.

Before You Order Your Shutters

Yes, absolutely! You should ensure that all renovations and remedial works to your windows and reveals are completed before we even measure up for your shutters. Many window companies will insist that shutters are removed when they are replacing the windows, which incurs additional costs and there is potential that the frames may be damaged on removal.

Tilt control is a personal choice really. Some people prefer the more classic look of the centre tilt rod while others prefer the more contemporary hidden tilt control mechanism and its clean modern look. The main advantage of our hidden control mechanism is that it is built within the stile of the shutters and has no visible connection rod, unlike some other products on the market.

You will not be able to clear the entire window. The shutters are hinged on angled posts where the window turns which essentially splits the shutters into sections, based on the shape of the window.

Shutters can be fitted on all types of windows and yes, we can install on UPVC windows provided we can get a suitable mounting point.

Measure the width, from the outside of the window frame on the left to the outside of the window frame on the right. Or from the left side of the reveal to right side reveal. Then measure the height from the sill to the ceiling or top of the reveal. If you are looking for café shutters, please give the height of the transom or horizontal divide in your window, rather than the full height of the window, and indicate this is what you are looking for.

Shutters are considered better at keeping the light out than blinds and curtains but shutters alone won't provide blackout in a room. We do however offer a shutter with an integrated blind which provides superb light closure, and we thoroughly recommend considering in bedrooms.

Yes! Shutters are a great way to reduce heat loss through your windows and therefore help reduce your energy bills in the winter. Studies have shown that shutters can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 28%, and this figure could be even higher for single glazed or older double-glazed windows.

Yes definitely; shutters will add an additional layer of insulation. Recent studies have shown that a louvered shutter will reduce heat loss by up to 28%. This figure could well be higher on single glazed and older windows.

If designed correctly, shutters will not make your room too dark. In fact, white shutters can brighten your room when the louvers/slats are open and flood your room with light.

This will depend on how many windows are having shutters but almost all our installations are completed within 1 day. If, for any reason, we think that we will need more than 1 day, we will discuss this with you at the initial home design visit.

No, we will remove all the shutter packaging and rubbish and will hoover up after ourselves too!

After Installation

The best way to clean the shutters is to use the brush extension of your vacuum cleaner. For a deeper clean, a duster/dusting stick or microfibre cloth is very effective and should you need to remove marks, a damp cloth is preferrable. We do not recommend polish but a small amount of general cleaning spray will remove stubborn marks.

Yes, if we installed your shutters for you, we could repair a broken louver. Provided there is no damage to the hidden tilt control mechanism or the tilt rod, then a repair is fairly straightforward. We will always ask for images to assess the damage and some simple information to assist with ordering the replacement louver. Please note that we do not hold spare components in stock and will therefore have to order from the factory so there will be some lead time.

If you are looking to fit a blackout blind behind shutters that are already in place, you will need to contact a local blind retailer. There will need to be sufficient space behind the shutters to retro fit the blind. If you do not currently have shutters, we would highly recommend our shutters with an integrated blind solution which offer excellent light closure and are more effective than shutters and a separate blind. Unfortunately, we cannot supply the integrated blind system to existing shutters.

Yes, we can assist with this. This service comes at a cost which we will discuss on a job by job basis and depends on the number of windows etc. If the shutters were not installed by ourselves, we cannot provide replacement parts and cannot guarantee the shutters after installation.
